del.icio.us module

During the last creative meeting we talked briefly about userpage modules. I've always wanted a [link] module and brought it up during that meeting. And since I haven't got anything better to do I quickly mocked it up to share it with you guys. :)

I have to point out that I made this module a few months ago. It's on my profile ($kemayo) :D

It's just that Heidi needs to approve it, and keeps on not getting back to me. :P

Flickr possibly?

I was also curious to see if there's a way to grab the feed from blogs and have a module for people to display recent posts from their blog. I would definitely use something like that. :) If that was implemented, it'd be neat to be able to customize the css for the blog module to fit the general color scheme and graphics of your blog.

Just spitting out some ideas, you don't have to take them seriously.

I doubt they'll add flickr.. too much of a competitor :)

I heard the RSS feed idea before..

( btw, making a visual suggestion always helps to get things noticed ;) )

I actually found delicious quite unusable when I first used it.. and to be honest, I've never really decided to use it since. (this was rather recently.)

strange, I would have thought you liked something like that :)

I see your point about importing bookmarks..
but I never had that problem.. in fact.. ALL my bookmarks are on delicious ( and they're organized over there ;) )

hmm.. I guess it's also because I've always heavily organized my bookmarks, (plus I use a tool called foxmarks to keep them in sync). I guess delicious just doesn't fit in with how I think.

I think a better solution would be to combine this with digg, reddit, etc. So it's a social news module — much more useful ;P

I thought about that.. but I would rather have a seperate box for each social news module then one that mixes them all together..

well, not on that mixes them all together, but it just has in it's options the "News Source". And you can choose where it get's the links from, be it digg, reddit, etc.

And why do you find it unusable?.

I think you are in a major mistake, but I will hold for your reply :).

I just found it purely unusable, because I'm one who heavily organises their bookmarks, and when you import the bookmarks, that organisation doesn't persist.

It probably doesn't fit in with the way I think it should work.

"I think you are in a major mistake" — no, I'm perfectly right to have an opinion. Opinions make software better.

Bookmarks in Delicious can be tag-assigned wich helps you to keep them in a more dynamic organisation (not just one category, but descriptions about the nature of the document, like "web", "design", "art", or "webdev" "development" "javascript" "resources").

Delicious will help you importing those bookmars, but you can't expect they are 100% accurate, but you can re-arrange them fairly fast.

It probably doesn't fit in with the way I think it should work.

You are probably right, but because of that, you can't state it is "unusable", it might not fit your needs or the way you act, but that doesn't mean an application is unusuable; therefore what I said "I think you are in a major mistake".

Delicious has proven to be one of the most usable webapps since it was launched, the very idea of being able to keep and share your bookmars wherever you are it is just delicious :).

Of course you are in your right to have your own opinion, opinion you should use with responsability and state in a more explicitly way; users might get the wrong idea because you are saying "it is unusable", I have read tons of comments regarding twitter, oh boy they have no idea what Delicious can achieve, just because they think it "might be just another facebook thingy" and reading over and over "it is unusable" they will adopt that same idea.

Forgive me if I have commited any mistake, I didnt revise this post :D.

Commenting and idea exchanging is always good :salute:

I guess what's happening here is that I'm not saying delicious is a shitty web application and should burn in hell, what I'm saying is that I found it unusable.

I don't care really if it's the most usable application to the rest of everybody on the internet, the fact I'm stating is that I found it unusable.

I would've thought you'd have a templating system to pull everything together, you know, so like you have a "stock module framework", which you can just Copy and Paste to create a new module, changing only a few settings in a php file or something... (YAML? JSON?)

It's kinda like that but we can't just throw together any module that one programmer thinks is a cool idea... anything that gets released to the site needs to be of significant value to users and once approved it'll go through a lot of quality control testing, etc. So writing the code might not be that big of a deal but the whole process is not a trivial undertaking.
