Yes this would be so awesome! i hope they look into it soon i mean i like the way it is now but a little remodeling would be great for example this !!!
Well, I think what we have now is much better that what I drafted back then.
The new version feels much like the old version ( long list of comments divided into sections ) and it adds some extra functionality: sidebar, pagination.
While my version didn't add that much functionality.I just moved a few things around and upgraded the looks.
I do however think that the new version could definitely use some improvements. Like I said before: it adds some extra functionality. But there could be much much more..
- widgets ( where the hell are they ? ) - sortable modules ( drag and drop sections ) - a much better deviantWATCH system ( make it fun to browse new art.. it looks really poor now.. ) - more customization ( control the amount of messages shown in each module f.ex ) - a revision of the new features ( thinking about folders here, they sound like a great feature.. but I never use them... do you ? )
so what we have now is a good, decent version. But it could be so much better, it has amazing potential that could turn this into message centre itself into a piece or art
I feel ya on this... message center development has a lot of potential and a lot of room for improvement. it currently falls short of what we wanted to accomplish with it for launch.
unfortunately this is an issue we always stumble in to due to the sheer demand on Devious Technologies. Message Center is really in a manageable state right now, while the need for Groups is just massive. (there are 13,000+ groups on deviantART using user pages to communicate, if you can believe it!) This will easily hit 100,000 once properly supported. Also Groups adds new pressures on to the message center, so revisiting MC post Groups development is a good idea.
We have a number of concepts to help super-active accounts manage their thousands of messages (users like ME actually, hehe) -- we drafted a system called RUCKUS MANAGEMENT which pairs messages together by user, by thread, and more things like this. Interestingly many of the cool features for messages and deviantWATCH have more to do with upgraded search capability at this point. so it's an entirely different team (the C++ group) that needs to hit that part of it up before the js/php folks can get back to work on delivering the goods.
As for widgets, groups and user pages will also require widgets so the use cases for all instances need to be put forward first so we're not duplicating efforts.
all for the good, we're definitely all hard at work as you well know
Should be like that!
